Let there be Lumia! |

Posted by Tech Revolve Hub on Tuesday, June 28, 2022

It’s tough being Nokia when you have Google announcing Ice Cream Sandwich and Apple having released iOS 5. Especially when you run Symbian. So Nokia do the best thing possible. Chuck Symbian, get Mango and attack it’s best market – India!

Nokia has confirmed that the Lumia series, which runs Windows 7.5 aka Mango, will hit Indian markets by mid-December. The Lumia series consists of Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, both each catering to different categories. The Lumia 800 is rumoured to be priced at 29,000 INR and the 710 at 14,000 INR.

It will be tough for each device, especially because of established competitors in each category (Samsung, LG, HTC). While Nokia may not be able to compete as closely in terms of OS, with the Mango OS still unproven, it still has a huge following in India which it can utilise to gain an upper hand. As alluded to by Mr. D. Shivakumar, managing director, Nokia intend to do the same :

“Over the past few months, we have been gearing up the ecosystem for the Nokia Lumia family in India and today we have in place strong operator partnerships, an all-new retail look and a ready developer ecosystem delivering rich content to make the Nokia Lumia experience a truly amazing one for Indian consumers.”

Moreover, Nokia, along with Microsoft, has trained nearly 14,000 employees on the particulars of Mango and the Lumia series in order to address any issues that arise with the devices.

This isn’t the first time Nokia has tried to make use of it’s stronghold in the Indian market. The Asha series is another such attempt.

Even though Nokia has changed it’s OS, it’s making sure that all it’s hopes do not ride in the ‘new OS basket’. The new marketing strategy seems effective, but as always, only time will tell.
